The CAVA is the most comprehensive assessor qualification and will allow you to assess occupational competence and vocational skills, both in a work and learning environment. Don’t confuse CAVA with TAQA, that is an umbrella term for Training, Assessing and Quality Assurance courses.
To become as assessor, you need to have experience and occupational competence in the area which you want to assess, along with an assessor qualification.
Once you gain this qualification you will be a fully qualified assessor and able to assess in your subject area. You can then work for colleges, training providers, apprenticeship providers or on a freelance/self employed basis. There is no subject specific assessor qualification eg CAVA in Early Years. This will cover any area which you are occupationally competent to assess.
Units
The Level 3 AET is an introductory course to teaching and learning in adult education and training. Formely known as PTTLS it is aimed at those who have little or no experience in the teaching or training sector.
It is also quite often a requirement for assessors to hold this qualification so that they can demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning. To view our CAVA and AET course bundle click here.
This course covers the roles and responsibilities of a teacher, legislation relation to teaching, equality, diversity and inclusion, setting ground rules, teaching and learning approaches, lesson planning, giving constructive feedback, assessment types and assessment methods, the importance of quality assurance, CPD and reflective practice.
Units
Once you have either paid in full or the initial deposit you will be contacted via email by the assessor team to begin your coursework.

Yes you will need two learners to assess who are undertaking qualifications that prove occupational competence. You can either use our learners or your own.
If you are using your own learners you will need an expert witness from your workplace to sign off any evidence based work.
Our learners can be provided at no extra cost and you can assess them remotely. We cannot guarantee sector specific learners, but they do not need to be sector specific to gain your qualification.
You will access our online learning platform where you will find all the learning materials and resources. You will make your way through the assignments which will be marked by your personal tutor. There is no need for any face to face learning or observations by us.
If you are using your own learners then your expert witness will sign off any evidence based tasks or observations. When using our learners you will choose assessment methods that don’t involve face to face observations.
You will have your own personal tutor for the duration of the course, you will be able to email them and arrange calls for further support. Even though this is a self study course you will have one to one support whenever you need it.
TAQA stands for Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance. It is not a qualification it is the umbrella term for assessor and quality assurance qualifications. The CAVA replaced the A1 and D32/33 qualifications, they are still recognised but no longer delivered.
On Average learners take around 4-6 months to complete the CAVA and around 3 months for the AET. The more time you have to work on assignments the sooner you will be able to finish. You will have 12 months to complete your courses. We will be able to discuss an extension beyond 12 months and there may be admin fees applied to continue.
This is a term you may see that relates to this AET qualification. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) replaced the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS). PTLLS is no longer delivered but is still accepted for those that completed their training before the AET was introduced.

If you are applying for Assessor roles we would advise starting with the CAVA first and then the AET. If you are applying for Lecturing/Teaching roles then you would be best starting with the AET. Have a look at the roles you are applying for and determine which is more valuable. E.g. Is the CAVA essential and the AET desirable? In this instance you would complete the CAVA first.
We have a 14 day full refund policy from the date you purchase your course. Once this period has ended course fees are payable in full.
